I grew up in New York but now live in Ilkley. I have been doing Healing work since late 1980’s. My first introduction to this work was my Grandmother who said I had a gift. I had an experience after my Motherd died that encouraged me to delve further in this area. I did not fully embrace this work until I was in nursing with cancer patients. I realised there was much more to ‘healing’ than the medical model. I learned Therapeutic Touch in New York and realised it helped everyone-plants, animals, people! I became more intrigued. I realised it was not about curing but caring and healing.
I completed my Masters (MSc) in Holistic Nursing in New York where I did a small study for my thesis on ‘What is the lived experience of a person receiving a reiki treatment?’ The results were simple but profound. These words describe the themes of deep relaxation, decreased pain, increased clarity, and feeling of increased well being. This Masters programme gave credibility to the complementary model of care. I also have my Reiki Master, Psychosynthesis training, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Mindfulness Meditation, Imagery training, and Mind Body Skills facilitator training for groups.
I have Mohawk Indian heritage, which drew me instinctively to shamanism. I trained and completed with the Four Winds Alberto Villodo Peruvian Shamanism, which is beautiful and deeper than Reiki. I have also studied with other shamans. When I work with my clients I use from my ‘toolbox’ whatever the person needs in that moment. I work both person-to-person and from a distance.
I also have worked as a Macmillan Nurse lecturer and practiced oncology nursing my whole nursing career.
